 Hello Everyone!

Our originally scheduled meeting falls on October 14th, which is also Canadian Thanksgiving.  Since the University is closed, we will be hosting an informal dinner event at 7:30pm.  This event does not count as a member responsibility, although we do have some juicy conversation to divulge into over a tasty dinner!

October 14th's topic will be based around Food: Facts, Feasts, and the Industry That Fuels Them.  Please look at these sources and the 'More' page for additional information regarding our topic.  If you cannot attend this Turkey Talk, we encourage you to participate in discussion over our Facebook Page, or here on the Blog.

  1. Our first source is a short video
  2. The Next source is a New Yorker article in response to the video
  3. The last source is an article by Mark Bittman, called "Not All Industrial Food Is Evil"

As you digest (haha) these sources think about some of these themes:
  • Ethics
  • Environment
  • Biodiversity
  • Cultural symbolism
  • Memory
  • Religious food
  • Food TV/Media
  • Marketing of Food
  • Food Porn
  • “Miracle”/“Super” Foods

IMPORTANT:
If you plan on attending this Turkey Talk it is crucial for food preparation purposes that you RSVP by Friday October 11th. Please use the Facebook page to let us know if you are coming so we can give you a seat. Please no 'maybes'.

What controversies do these sources conjure up for you? Think about them, and bring them to dinner!

Bring Your Brains (and your stomachs)!
Sincerely,
Christine and Lucy
