Thanks to all who came to the Night at the Museum!
We enjoyed some tasty drinks at Kafein, then headed over to the Redpath museum for a flashlight tour of artifacts.
We started our tour off with piling into a tiny lecture theatre, and learning about the history of the museum, and the people who funded it. We then moved into the show room part of the museum (which was pitch black!), and were greeted by museum volunteers that gave us mini-tours around the museum with flashlights. The volunteers were very knowledgable, and were able to answer many of our questions. The first floor of the museum contained fossils of dinosaurs, plants, and had a large collection of geodes and animal taxidermy.
The second floor of the museum had anthropological artefacts, including skulls, coins, vases, armour, and mummies (!).
The flashlight tour was a great way to explore the Redpath Museum. For those of you who were unable to come, we strongly recommend checking out the museum at some point. There are some fascinating natural history treasures in there. Even the building has its own stories to tell.
On another note, please don't forget to send us your ideas for upcoming tea talks and we'll add them to our topic bank. Are you starting to research an assignment that you find interesting and challenging? Perhaps one of your professors brought up an idea in class that you would like to explore more in depth. We'd love to hear about these things!
Toodles and topazes,
Christine and Lucy
P.S. For those still curious about that anaconda skeleton we saw, it turns out snakes do in fact have lungs. They are just very long and thin.
